The Solitary Confinement of Girls in the United States: International Law and the Eighth Amendment

In this Comment, Colleen Murphy analyzes the constitutional challenges to the solitary confinement of girls, incorporating international law to the extent possible.  This Comment surveys the impacts of solitary confinement on all youth and discusses the need for gender-specific policies in the juvenile justice system and for solitary confinement in particular.  Finally, this Comment addresses related international law and how it can be incorporated into an Eighth Amendment challenge to the solitary confinement of girls.
