Regulation of Indecent Radio Broadcasts: George Carlin Revisited—What Does the Future Hold for the Seven "Dirty" Words?

Comment by R. G. Passler

This Comment analyzes recent Federal Communications Commission decisions that consider the legality of radio broadcasts containing sexually explicit language. As part of this analysis, the Comment includes broadcast excerpts, which the FCC quoted in its decisions. We understand that some readers may find this material objectionable. However, we believe, as did the FCC, that a full understanding of the legal issues involved is not possible without including the actual language of the broadcasts.
